I posted last week that my Bike wasn't starting. Thinking it was a battery issue, I got out the charger and put it on the center stand. I decided to fidget the kick stand a bit and it started right up. Stupid me for not checking that first, but no big deal.

Fastforward to this morning, and it does the same thing (wouldn't start). Pushed up on the kick stand and still wouldn't start. Put it up on the center stand and it started right up.

What gives?

Umm--It likes to start on the centerstand? ??? Maybe you kick it harder there.

Does it stay running once it is off the centre stand?

There is a tip over switch under the seat, but that should only come into play if you lay the bike on its side (or lid :-\) The bike shuts down when it is activated.  It would be my first thought if the bike wouldnt start on any angle except bolt upright.

Loose connection somewhere that gets jostled into contact by the action of hauling the bike up on the centre stand maybe? Check the wiring to the centre stand switch.

It should not start with the side stand down, that's a safety featue.  There is no switch on the center stand.  The side stand switches can be flakey, maybe putting it on the center stand just jostled the side stand switch enough to make it work.

You can disable the sidestand switch easily to test it.  There is a wire coming from the side stand switch.  Follow it up a few inches and there is a connector, disconnect it.  If it starts reliably with it disconnected it's the side stand switch.

You can open up the switch and try to fix it or just take it to the dealer.

My guess is loose connection behind the headlamp.    On the sidestand the front tire is turned and causing stress on the connectors and on the centerstand the  tire is straight (from moving it backwards onto the stand) and the connection is good.

Just a guess.

I think it is the sidestand switch too.

I've noticed that if I have had the G5 on its sidestand and then straighten it up and just move the sidestand into the up position the bike will not start.

If I then lower the side stand and then knock it back with a good kick so it goes WHACK! when it comes to rest everything works like it should.

Three likely possibilities ...

- sidestand switch as already suggested
- something to do with the weight of rider sitting on bike (unlikely with no under-seat electrics)
- some issue to do with front wheel as suggested above
