New guy here in Austin Tx. Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. Name's Cary, new to motorcycles and obviously new to Royal Enfield. I'm working on my new 'mid life crisis' toy and learning all I can! I will be taking the MSF as soon as the weather here cools down.

I've wanted a motorcycle for years, and now is the time. My Dad had a BSA long ago before I was born. I had been looking at Triumph until I picked up a Cafe Racer magazine and saw the Enfield ad inside the cover.

Turns out local dealer has a left over 2009 discounted, so we are completing the application today! I'm excited!

I'll be back with a lot of questions for you guys.

Congratulations on your wise choice. You will love the bike, and there is no other like it.

Just pay attention to the break in ritual all all will be fine.

Take your future questions to the "UCE Engine" section. This Classic section is mainly for the the older iron barrel engines. It's a bit confusing because a you got a "Classic" model, but the titles are actually for engine types. This one should probably retitled "Iron Barrel"

have fun :)

Welcome aboard and congratulations on your new bike.

I'm sure the dealer has repaired the potential problem but because your bike is a 2009 be sure to ask the dealer if it has had the mandatory DOT repair to the 3rd gear in the transmission.

All of the 2009 Royal Enfields were required to do this repair and as I understand it the Royal Enfield company sent several experts over here to bring the replacement parts and to supervise the work.

Like I said, the work was probably done but it doesn't hurt to ask about it.

Happy Riding. :)

Welcome, Cary. Good luck with the bike. All the other guys, who've been here longer than I have, have already given you good advice.

Keep reading ALL the forums. They all help in some way no matter which you ride.

I stopped being sick & tired of being sick & tired in 1986 after 30 years & gave up Everything except breathing, coffee & motorcycles. And like you, brother Hoge, I refused & still refuse to give that up until they pry my cold dead leg off the kickstarter or I can't swing my leg over any more.

Welcome to the club! I first read about the RE in a Motorcycles for Dummies book well before I took my training course.

During the course the instructors asked around the room what kind of bikes we wanted to ride, and most were crotch rockets and Harley's. I told them "Royal Enfield" and they looked at me like I was crazy.

It's been a fun road - literally and figuratively!

Cheers,

'C

Aloha Cary. Welcome. I used to live in Austin and it's such a great spot. I was a motorcycling newbie a year ago, but now I have a msf class, lots of hands on repair work on my bike, and 4500 miles under my belt, I feel less like a newbie and more like a MAN! Lol! This will happen to you as well... I'd suggest Proficient Motorcycling book by Hough too.
Your bike is not really suitable for IH 35, mopac, etc..but for a cruise out to Fredricksburg or something it'll be good fun.
Cheers and drink a Trudys margarita for me sometime..
