Bittercrick:

Congratulations on your new C5 that is thumping nicely after the initial scare. It will run fine. How about some pictures ?

I did 160km/100miles today fresh out of the crate, you've got some catchin' up to do.

We ALL have catching up to do.

Glad to hear you got it home alright.

Now, I think you need to make an effort to try to stick to the recommended speeds during the rest of its break in.  It's kind of a pita but there are a bunch of parts inside the engine/transmission that need to break in gently.

These bikes aren't the typical "broke in off the showroom floor" machines folks are used to getting.   The parts take a while to adjust to one another and they will produce hot spots while they are doing this.

You will find a bunch of metal splinters on the two magnetic drain plugs when you do your first 300 mile oil change.   You might also find, as I did, that there is some fiber junk that is blocking the oil pickup screen when you do that oil change.

Just take it easy, don't "lug" the engine by accelerating in a higher gear and it will be fine.  :)

Not meaning to be preachy at all, just wanting to save others the heartache of my youthful foibles.

Another reason to not lug the motor is oil circulation.

Air cools the head and cylinder walls via fins but your engines oil is what cools the piston, valves, valve springs, cams etc.

Running at the recommended RPM's ensures an adequate supply of oil to those bits thus keeping them cooler.
No matter where you go, there, you are.
