K70
on: July 18, 2011, 06:31:54 pm
I have a brand new 3.25x19 mounted on a Triumph rim that I haven't put back on the Bonneville yet. I probably will sell the Bonneville (1972).
My enfield has the stock Avons (3,000 miles).
Would it be worth it to swap the avon and the K70?
This would leave the SM on the rear. Would they be compatable?
I was back on the Enfield today for the first time since we lost Uncle Ernie, and I was a bit tense.

I just got two K-70's and am getting ready to put them on...have not been thrilled with the AVONS that were on the bike when it arrived...they look a bit weather worn and cracking.  Sooo...off they come

I replaced my Avon's with the K70's but because they needed replacing. Your bike is fairly new so I would probably keep them on there,

Love me some K70s, but if you rid yourself of the stock rubber don't just toss that rear in the pitch.  They are great rear tires for a hack rig.    ;)

The Avons are fine tires. No need to switch just for the sake of switching.

Today I realized for the first time that I was no longer grinding the center stand feet when negotiating these Ozark Mountain twisties at speed. Reason: going to a 4.00 by 19 K-70 on the rear has jacked the rear end up just a tad it seems. I guess when I hear the center stand feet making a noise again it will be time for a tyre change.   8)

I'm swapping mine out with 8500 miles on em...plus they are looking worn on the side walls...cracks and such

Will a K70 3.50 fit on the front and a K70 4.00 fit on the rear of an Iron Barrel?

The 3.50 will fit the front. The 4.00 won't fit the back properly. It's meant for a wider rim, a WM3. The Bullets have a WM2 front and rear rim.

How do they compare size wise with the stock Avon 3.25/3.50? I know like sized tires fit differently.

The K70's are very similar in size to the Avons. The look and performance is so much better than the stock tires IMHO.

How well do the K70s handle wet surfaces, or dirt/gravel roads?

The K70 is a good general purpose tire. Where it really doesn't excel at anything it does well enough with every condition that it has earned it's place with a 50 year plus production run.
Looks good too!
The only downside to the K70 is its relatively short life span. Expect about 4K on the rear and maybe double that on the front.
