I never did to my old R90S.. I just rode it..

The K100rs ,I put over 100,000 miles on it ,just put gas and oil in it, had the valves checked once at 20,000 and they were fine

The valves on the old airheads, you set cold with a feeler gauge.

What with this new gas, though you may have a point

I think they put helium in the tires of the Yamaha! Every time I see one the front or rear wheel is up in the air! A naked sportbike with human seating. What a concept!

My second bike is at hand. I just need to finish putting it back together. It's a Honda GB500 that probably only about 3-4 hours work to get it finished and dunno how many hours finding the parts that have been mislayed to do it with!

Here are some old pictures of it. I took the street gear off it to go racing, but I really never raced it, so I've been in the long process of putting it back together again. It'll look the same when I'm done.

barenekd,
That is a fantastic motorcycle.  I would love to own one.  I know I'm derailing this thread a bit, but how does it ride?  Power?  Thanks for the pics.  Awesome machine.

It is a great bike. I rode it a lot with the Norton club and could actually outrun 750 Commandos. It will do well over the ton. The handling as excellent and it is quite comfortable. The seating postiton is a bit more of a sporting than the Enfield. The longest ride I took on it was a 535 mile Butt Buster we used to do every year through mountains and canyons of SoCal. It gets great mileage, in the mid 60s. Enfields need not apply to go dicing through the twisties against it. It has great amenities such as kick or push button starting, although my Beast actually kick starts easier. And the styling was the best, always reminded me of AJS boy racers or Matchless G-50s. What can I say, definitely one of my all-time favorites! Although the carb works quite well on it, I wish it was FI.

When the GB500 first came out a friend of mine (who loved old British singles) went to the local Honda dealer and bought two of them.

He rode one and left the other one in the packing box it was delivered in.

He has long sense moved away and I haven't seen him for years but I wouldn't be surprised to find he still has the new one in the box.
(He was sorta weird that way.)

No, I don't think so.  The phone number wasn't for the person I knew.
Of course he might have sold it to someone in Pennsylvania or even moved there himself.
The last I knew of him he had bought a small island up in Michigan and was building his house on it.

OH MAN! That bike is going to end up in some collection, never to feel the freedom of the open road!

GreenRE, you were shopping anyways... what'da'ya say?  Liberate that gem of a pony!

I know 10+ grand is a bucket load for an old Honda.  Shoot, you could get something new and red for that price.  But I feel like you are paying a "time machine" fee that gets you an old bike, brand new.

This will torture me.
