There is a grey colored wire behind the headlight, in the nacelle of my G5 that went nowhere - just deadend. What is this for ?

It may be a wire for a parking light.

I'll bet it's for the little parking light that used to be in the headlamp, I wonder if the Indian domestic models still have it?

The other gray wires in the headlamp go to the pilot lights so the parking idea is probably correct

I think you are right. My C5 came with the 7" Minda headlight and the little parking light and this might be it..........

+1 for the parking light. UK bikes have 7" headlight with a little parking bulb in the side of the reflector.

Nah, I like the idea it is an I-pod line

- Now, I will have to buy an I-pod/pad - those touch thingy's. They are amazing though.

Ohhh, so if that is a switched 12v+ power line, that would be PERFECT place to tap off for my forthcoming headed grips!

I wonder if it has its own fuse.

I believe its between the starter button and the stop engin button on the right handgrip.

I put on a Kuryakin rig to hold the throttle in postition while cruising to give my hand a rest so it doesnt fall asleep and was concerned about covering the switch. Then I realized it didnt connect to anythign so who cares

That's the headlight switch, take the jumper wire out and it will work.

^^^ Here's another view of that headlight switch bypass wire thingie that r80rt posted above... the photo with my finger pointing into the headlight casque shows where the wire used to go... unplugged it and plugged the remaining ends together and now my headlight switch works. They disable it in the US models because of DOT regulations (headlight has to come on as soon as you turn the key, so you don't have the choice to go 'stealth mode')

Does anyone know if that afformentioned dead-end wire could power some heated grips, or would you most likely just fry something?

With the tiny wires Enfield used in their harness I would be cautious hooking up anything that draws more than 3 watts on a circuit that was designed for a 2 watt bulb.

While I was at my dealers place today he had a harness hanging beside the Enfield parts display. I looked at it and noticed that about 3 wires that would have been located in the headlight nacelle were fried.

I didn't bother to ask what the cause of it was. In Arizona there's not a lot of demand for heated grips so I doubt that those would have been the cause.

Having been an electrician for 20+ years. Wiring isn't done until there's one that does nothing. Same thing in India too.

Can't tell you about the dead end wire, but I love having a functional headlight switch. It helps me sneak into the parking garage that I'm not really supposed to park in.

Didn't realise US bikes had the lights switched on all the time. So do you have that yellow flasher button on front of the left hand switch?

AVL has the flasher as well... doesn't do anything if you're already on high-beam though. (probably normal)

I 4th the idea of being able to go stealth.

Why Americans need to regulate the ability to turn on and off a headlight is beyond me. Do cars or semi's have to run the lights all the time? No!

Cuz you can't even remember to flip up your kickstands and cancel your turn signals, let alone find the headlight switch!

i thought that near beer was long gone....they use to pawn that stuff at the military bases back in the 70's....wow...guess u in the thick of the bible belt there fellow...its not like you really missing anything but easy for me to say as I crack a cold imported whatever my heart desires from the supermarket, gas station and/or convenience store...getting beer is the least of our problem here...we got beer coming outta of our ears...

Back a few years ago when I used to work in Quebec, the liquor stores used to sell from bulk tanks. Buy a plastic 60 oz jug and pull the tap on the bottom of the 200 gallon serving vats of whiskey, rum, vodka, wines and whatever else your liver desired.And you could buy road maps and snacks for the drive home. Sadly a few people rearranged some roadside hydro appliances, so they dont do that anymore.

Near beer is alive and well! Bible belt is not quit right tho, we're the buckle! Use to travel allot and was always nice to be able to grab a cold Guiness at the convenience store or pick up a bottle at the same time your grabbing dinner. We Okies are so backward about the whole thing, have to have our rearview mirrors facing forwards.

Could be worse, use to have dry counties and you had to drive to the city limits, bring your own bottle, bar would sell you a glass and mixer! $:-\$

I think South Carolina had or has some wierd liquor by the bottle rule. Got a long island ice tea on time and it cost me 20 bucks. 5 little airline bottles.
