As an update, E/S didn't work after my first OR second hours commuting home.. ???  I did notice the ammeter dip when I pressed it the last time though, but no audible sound from the bike.

I noticed the same thing. So I used #0000 steel wool or 2000 grit sand paper to get all electrical connections like new again.

I picked my bike up new (but 2 years old) from the showroom floor three months ago...  I don't think corrosion could be it but I'll definitely give it a look anyway.

Again, I'm in the same boat as you were that my E/S isn't necessary to me at all, it'd just be cool to figure it all out if i find myself bored and wanting to tinker.  Maybe next winter?  I'm doing the 7" headlight swap tonight or soon and will do the lamp switch removal at the same time
