never had such a tempermental clutch before;

I put slightly different bars on;  went from Superbike to Daytona- and now I can't get the clutch lever juuust right.

I've been playing around some, but the clutch engages too soon.  My lever is right on the grap.  I tried adjust at the engine and at the lever...
Do I need to screw IN the bolt at the engine even more?

No, you've got it backwards.  Unscrew the bolt.

This might sound obvious but it's worth a mention.

The clutch cable adjuster, either at the lever or, if you have it, mid-way along the cable, is just that - a cable adjuster.

The adjuster in the garbox housing adjusts the clutch itself.

They are two totally different things. If your clutch worked OK before the bar change then it'll work OK after if you have a long enough cable and it's not kinked or stretched. The cable might need some slight adjustment at the lever but other than that hand check the cable run for sharp kinks or stretches.

Yeah.  Takes me a while to remember which bike I'm working on sometimes.  Interesting how bikes have the same parts / componants but they fit tigether differently.

Next question;
How do I know when the clutch cable is stretched enough that I need to replace it?
Is the adjusting bolt at the trans any indication?
