Scotty  -  they are chunkier than the C5 pads. As you say - they do look more old school.  I don't find them in the least uncomfortable, but bear in mind I got on this bike after decades of no riding at all, so didn't have to re-acclimatize from another bike. But they seem to suit me fine.
Get down to the Royal Enfield shop and sit on one (leave credit cards at home for safety)  ;)

I find the knee pads, particularly on the G5, advantageous when it come to certain situations when riding. I find it helpfull to be able to grip the tank/pads between the thighs. This gives me more control and grip, more points of contact, with the bike, under certain situations/conditions.
I wouldn't like to think I was gripping the tank directly onto the metal.
Sort of slippy I guess!

The best part about the knee pads is that in the winter that metal tank can get cold!

I suppose the C5 pads offer some insulation from cold and a little grip, but I traded the Monster for the RE so I wouldn't be hanging off gripping the tank in the corners.  I figured sooner or later the odds would add up and it would be bad for my health ;)

I like that they put the pads on for the retro look and I like how they made them small and low profile.  I just want a little more shiney in my moto life :)  Call it backlash from 3 years of owning a flat black motorcycle.

If I had pciked the G5 over the C5 there's no way I wouldn't have gotten the deluxe ;)

The C5 Chrome looks a little odd in pictures, I'll have to wait and see it in person to make a judgment.  Regargless, I'm not trading in or buying a new ride any time soon so unless they start selling chrome/teal tanks I got what got for now :)

They're all gorgeous, of course. I'm not one for bling and noise in the ordinary world, but I want my bike shiny and loud. :D 8) ;)

OD green G5.  All the crome is slowly getting dirty so it is not as shiney any more ;D

Makes me happy.

Certain pants material can dull a paint finish, but maybe the C5 has tougher paint than my old SR500 did.

I like the kneepads, except for the fact that whoever put mine on had a poor sense of flow and symmetry when s(he) affixed them to the tank.

I second that motion! If you hose it with WD-40 to stop squeaks and lubricate it - the "patina" will stick to it that much better.  ;D If it's nice enough out to SHINE the darn thing - it's nice enough to RIDE it!!  ;)

Didn't they move yours to a better position?

We have some pictures of the C5 Chrome 3/4 shots from the rear. When you see the paint stripe down the middle I think it seals the deal for one of these Interceptor look alikes. Rhett hasn't posted them yet.

The first side shots i saw didn't look so good.  When I saw the rear 3/4 shots I reconsidered.  Justin's got one on order so I'll see it sooner or later.  It sounds like they look better in the flesh.
